Istanbul, Türkiye, 25 November 2024 - The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, in partnership with the Mor Çati Women's Shelter Foundation, successfully hosted a Training Workshop on Methods of Support for Women Who Are Victims of or Under the Risk of Violence for the Filipino community in the Marmara region. The workshop took place on 24 November 2024 at the Wyndham Grand Istanbul Levent Hotel.
The workshop aimed to enhance the Filipino community’s understanding of women’s rights, the various forms of discrimination against women and children, and effective support strategies for those affected by violence.
Ms. Ebrar Nefes from Mor Çatı served as the resource speaker, providing participants with in-depth insights on the following topics: basic approaches and support methods for victims of violence; types and effects of violence against women and children (VAWC); relevant legislations; legal protections, and emergency hotline numbers; and government mechanisms available in Türkiye, even for foreign nationals. Her expertise ensured participants are left with practical knowledge and tools to aid fellow Filipino women in need.
Approximately 50 individuals, consisting of workers and students–predominantly women—participated in the seminar and received certificates from the Consulate. In alignment with the UN Women’s OrangeTheWorld Campaign, the Consulate General distributed orange VAWC-themed T-shirts to all the participants to further amplify awareness and advocacy against violence.
The training workshop is part of the Consulate General’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) and Gender and Development (GAD) for the year. It also contributes to the annual 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, highlighting the Consulate’s dedication to addressing the needs of its constituents, particularly women, who form the majority of Filipinos under its jurisdiction.
