The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul joins the Department of Foreign Affairs in the observance of the 18-Day Campaign Against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2021.
Violence against women is a violence against human rights. It manifests and perpetuates discrimination and gender inequality. It violates the fundamental right of women to live a life free from violence as upheld in international commitments and their local translation.
With the campaign theme (2016-2021) “VAW-free community starts with Me”, this year’s focus is on capacitating VAW Desk Officers and other officials on how to handle VAW/GBC cases. It also reiterates everyone’s commitment and contributions on ending VAW and calls on the general public to make a personal commitment to end violence against women and children.
With this, Istanbul PCG aims to promote awareness among its officers and staff on the forms of violence women and girls experience and to provide them with necessary skills on how to deal with VAW survivors, in the performance of their duties as consular officials and assistants.
Istanbul PCG likewise invites everyone to dedicate a few minutes of their time by reading the prayer to end VAW, which may be downloaded at https://tinyurl.com/y3jkmfvq - END.
