Istanbul, Türkiye, 15 March 2025— The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Lebanon, the Işık Akademi First Aid Training Center (Işık Akademi İlkyardım Eğitim Merkezi) and Beyoğlu Municipality, successfully organized a First Aid Training for the Filipino community in Istanbul on 15 May 2025 at the Bilim Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Türkiye.
The workshop aims to equip the Filipino community with essential first-aid skills for medical emergencies, accidents, and disasters, thereby strengthening community safety and preparedness.
OWWA Lebanon’s Welfare Officer, Ms. Windelin Marquez delivered the opening remarks emphasizing the importance of the first aid training for the Filipino community in Türkiye considering the country’s vulnerability to earthquakes. Welfare Officer Marquez added that with the right knowledge and fırst-aid skills, the Filipino community will be able to respond in emergencies and protect themselves, their families, and their communities in times of crises.
Meanwhile, Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil, in her closing remarks, thanked the Filipino community for participating in the First-Aid training and committed to organize more training and seminars in the future for the Filipino community under Istanbul PCG’s jurisdiction to further enhance their knowledge and competencies, allowing them to become more effective in their work.
Around 60 participants, predominantly women, benefited from the training's two resource persons, Mr. Yusuf Carti and Ms. E. Nihal Özgat. Topics covered include heimlich maneuver, CPR, fracture and wound care, precautions and positions to be taken while waiting for emergency help for patients/injured, and emergency response procedures. Participants received certificates from Işık Akademi and first-aid kits from OWWA Lebanon. The said training forms part of Post’s ATN and GAD activities in celebration of the National Women’s Month.
Filipino community members conveyed their appreciation to the Consulate General and OWWA Lebanon for organizing such a relevant training describing it as very helpful, informative, and vital for safeguarding themselves and their family and offering immediate aid during emergency situations. END
