The Consulate General of the Republic of the Philippines in Istanbul informs the public that the Turkish Government has imposed a full lockdown in all of Turkey's 81 provinces beginning at 7:00 P.M. of 29 Apr 202 until 5:00 A.M. of 17 May 2021 to support efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Turkish Interior Ministry has issued detailed guidelines on the implementation of the lockdown, the key points of which are:

  1. All workplaces and commercial enterprises will be closed except for the places where basic food, medicine, and cleaning products are sold and the workplaces within the scope of exemption (production, manufacturing, supply and logistics chains, health, agriculture, and forestry activities). An abuse of exemptions will be subject to administrative sanctions.
  2. Food stores, supermarkets and butchers can operate between 10 A.M. - 5 P.M. Home deliveries are to be permitted. Chain supermarkets will be closed on Sundays.
  3. Inter-city travel is also restricted. Exemptions may be given for emergency cases (e.g. funerals and burials, medical) subject to travel permits issued by offices of Governors and District Governors in each of the 81 provinces.
  4. Restaurants will only operate for take away services. Online delivery food services are allowed on a 24-hour basis until Thursday, 13 May 2021.
  5. Inter-city public transport (excluding air travel) operations to be reduced by 50%.
  6. All foreigners, except tourists in the country, are subject to the restrictions.

The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul strongly advises all Filipinos to strictly follow the latest guidelines by the Turkish Government for their health and safety.

In full support of the measures being undertaken by the Turkish Government against the further spread of the Covid-19 virus, the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul will be CLOSED to the public from 30 Apr 2021 to 16 May 2021.

Those with appointments for consular services during the temporary closure will be advised to reschedule and be given priority for dates after the resumption of operations of the Consulate General on 17 May 2021 (subject to any possible extension of the lockdown).
