24 May 2021 - Team Philippines-Turkey, comprising the Philippine Embassy in Ankara and the Philippine Consulate General in İstanbul, conducted two (2) online sessions on Philippine laws for the members of the Filipino community in Turkey.
The online sessions on 9 and 23 May 2021 were made possible through the efforts of the Philippine Consulate General in İstanbul and the İnternational Pro Bono Alliance-Philippines (IPBA) –a non-profit group of lawyers who give free legal services to migrant workers and the vulnerable sectors of society. IPBA has affiliates all over the globe but has yet to establish its network in Turkey.
The 9 May virtual interaction delved on the Family Code, covering topics such as annulment, divorce, legal separation, among others. Discussions on 23 May meanwhile focused on Women’s Rights (particularly issues on violence against women and children) and Property Rights, comprising the different ways of acquiring property as well as on succession rights.
The two-hour online sessions drew close to 100 participants, most of whom actively asked questions on their relevant concerns.
The online sessions are part of Team Philippines-Turkey’s efforts to engage with and empower through information-sharing the members of the Filipino community in Turkey. END
