ISTANBUL, 8 August 2024 — Philippine Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil met with Boğaziçi University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Naci İnci at the university’s grounds on 6 August 2024 to explore potential future collaborations.

The meeting highlighted promising prospects for academic and cultural collaborations between Boğaziçi University, as well as joint projects with the Consulate. Key discussion points included the development of flexible exchange agreements for faculty and student exchanges and joint research projects, as well as partnership for lectures and seminars of mutual interest between the Philippines and Türkiye. 

Consul General Mananquil also turned over the following Philippine books: 1) Bantugang Sugbuanon: The Art and Artist of Cebu, 2) Dakilang Lagunense: The Art and Artist of Laguna, and 3) Rizal without the Overcoat.  The Consul General also expressed hope to further build on this collection in the future, with the goal of promoting Philippines’ rich culture and literature.

The University Rector was joined by Vice Rector Prof. Gürkan S. Kumbaroğlu and Library Director Mr. Burhaneddin Kanlioglu, while Consul General Mananquil was accompanied by Vice Consul Maika Ros B. Fontelera and Cultural Officer Rina Ann M. Ibayan.

Founded in 1863, Boğaziçi University, also known as Bosphorus University, is a prominent public research university located on the European side of the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, Turkey. It is  historically tied to a former American educational institution, Robert College, the first American college to be founded outside the United States. Boğaziçi University consistently ranks highest in Turkey, having the most number of applicants via the YGS-LYS Turkish university entrance examinations. The university’s language of instruction is English. END
