Istanbul, Türkiye, 25 March 2024 - The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, under the leadership of Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil, joined forces with the Philippine Commission on Population and Development (CPD) and the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation (TAPV) on the successful conduct of a hybrid Seminar on Women and Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health on 24 March 2024 at the Consulate premises.

"Any country will not attain full development if women are held back and not given opportunities to succeed on their own terms. But we cannot deny that women still face challenges such as inequality, discrimination, and violence against women. That’s why we have thought of convening this seminar, because by championing reproductive rights and sexual health, we contribute to women’s dignity and empowerment," said Consul General Mananquil as she welcomed the participants.

CPD’s Knowledge Management and Communications Division headed by Division Chief Mylin Mirasol C. Quiray, discussed the current state of reproductive health in the Philippines, the prevailing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues among Filipino women and adolescents, parenting styles among adolescents, and effective communication with one’s adolescent children. Division Chief Quiray was joined by Assistant Division Chief Grace P. Dela Cruz, and KMCD’s Information Officers, Ms. Ma. Luisa Rizza T. Danila and Mr. Kevin P. Suela.

Meanwhile, Ms. Deniz Özkor, Women's Empowerment Program Coordinator of the Turkish Family Health and Planning Foundation, provided the Filipino community with current information about the services available to them, including contact numbers of hospitals and facilities maintained by the Turkish government for cases related to their reproductive health.

Over 50 participants, composed mainly of workers, the majority of whom are women, attended the seminar on site. The seminar was also live streamed via the Consulate’s Facebook Page.

The activity forms part of the Consulate General’s Assistance to Nationals (ATN) and Gender and Development (GAD) for the year and is in continued celebration of the 2024 National Women’s Month.END
