Istanbul, Turkiye, 18 December 2023 — The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, with cooperation and support of the Şişli Municipality, debuted the "Archipelagic States: Identity, Consciousness and Law" Exhibit and the "Law of the Sea" (Batas ng ng Karagatan) Documentary, with both English and Turkish subtitles, on 19 December 2023 at Şişli Municipality Nazim Hikmet Art And Culture House (Şi̇şli̇ Beledi̇yesi̇ Nâzim Hi̇kmet Kültür Ve Sanat Evi̇).
Around 90 participants, which mostly comprised of Turkish, foreign, and Filipino professionals and students, participated in the event and engaged in an interactive discussion with Philippine Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Antonio A. Morales and Philippine Consul General to Istanbul Shirlene C. Mananquil, who served as the resource speakers for the event.
The exhibit, which included a 20-foot wide mural and 16 images captured by Jacob Maentz, a Philippine-based documentary photographer; a replica of the Murillo Velarde Map; and the Islands Abridged Virtual Game, an interactive exploration of the Philippines, showcased the Philippines’ unique archipelagic identity, the way of life of Filipinos, and the country’s maritime heritage.
