Istanbul, Türkiye, 08 November 2023 - Over the weekend, the Filipino community in Istanbul and its neighboring provinces, along with the personnel from the Philippine Consulate General, participated in the Public Run Segment of the annual Istanbul Marathon held on 5 November 2023.
The Istanbul Marathon, renowned for its scenic route bridging Asia and Europe while winding through the heart of the city, offered the ideal setting for the Filipino contingent to display their sportsmanship and unity. Filipino community members and Consulate personnel showcased their unwavering enthusiasm and pride as they completed the marathon's public run segment.
Following the run, more than 90 Filipinos gathered at the picturesque Maçka Art Park for a Salu-Salo, a traditional Filipino gathering marked by feasting and socializing. Filipino dishes, served by the Philippine Consulate General and various Filipino community groups, celebrated the runners' achievements and nurtured a strong sense of community among the Filipinos in Istanbul.
The Filipino community's active participation in the public run for the second time exemplifies the enduring spirit and enthusiasm that Filipinos bring to every endeavor, whether in their homeland or abroad.
The Consulate General’s spearheading of the Filipino community’s participation in this event underscores the strong connection between the Philippines and Türkiye, celebrates the diversity and unity within the Filipino diaspora, and instills the importance of maintaining a vibrant and active lifestyle among members of the Filipino community.
