Istanbul, 24 October 2023 – The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, led by Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil, in partnership with the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Lebanon, headed by Labor Attaché Alejandro Padaen, Social Security System (SSS) Foreign Representative in London, and Pag-IBIG Fund Virtual Office to Europe, conducted a three-day outreach mission from 21 to 23 October 2023 and a consultation meeting on 22 October 2023, to serve the Filipino community in the Marmara Region.
Over 90 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW), were provided assistance by the MWO and OWWA Lebanon, of which 20 were related to contract verification; one renewal accreditation; 32 agency hire; and 22 were on labor-related concerns. In addition, 14 OWWA membership renewals were facilitated during the said outreach mission. Many of the clients also took advantage of the virtual and on-site services offered by Pag-IBIG and SSS, as well as the overseas voting registration desk.
The consultation meeting with the Filipino community, which was also livestreamed on Post’s Official Facebook page, featured informative presentations from two key agencies. Ms. Lydia E. Cabagnot, the SSS Foreign Representative, presented an overview of SSS membership benefits, loan programs, as well as savings and investment options available for Filipinos even while they are abroad. Similarly, Ms. Andrea Nichole C. Gatbonton, a Members Services Officer from the Pag-IBIG Virtual Office, discussed the organization's services and offerings to the Filipino community.
This outreach mission and consultation, which served mostly women clients, is part of the Consulate General’s Gender and Development (GAD) and Assistance to Nationals (ATN) programs for the year, with the aim of empowering Filipino migrant workers by equıpping them with correct information about the existing programs of the Philippine government as well as in promoting of financial literacy.
