ISTANBUL, 26 JULY 2023 - The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, in cooperation with the Migrants Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in Lebanon successfully repatriated an ailing Filipina worker on 25 July 2023 via Turkish Airlines. Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil personally oversaw the repatriation process.

The repatriate, an undocumented worker in Türkiye for over five years, underwent a recent brain operation due to an unruptured cerebral aneurysm.

Through the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Fund of the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs, the Consulate covered a portion of the Filipina’s hospital bills and ongoing treatment, while the MWO and OWWA Lebanon provided the flight ticket.

The Consulate, likewise, coordinated with Turkish Airlines and the Istanbul Airport Authorities for the necessary assistance from the Filipina worker’s arrival at the Istanbul airport until she boarded the plane.

Accompanied by the Philippine Consulate General's Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Officer, Ms. Meri Jayne Cinco, the Filipina worker safely returned to the Philippines, and received further assistance from the OWWA Repatriation Assistance Division (OWWA-RAD) upon arrival. END
