Istanbul, 19 June 2023 - Philippine Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil held a productive meeting with the Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sub-Office in Istanbul, Mr. Phil Eanes, on 14 June 2023. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, protecting Filipino migrants, and promoting safe and orderly migration through the different programs of IOM such as the Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) and counter-trafficking victim support program, among others.
The meeting addressed key migration issues, including labor mobility, human trafficking prevention, and migrant integration. Both parties emphasized the importance of comprehensive migration data collection and analysis to ensure appropriate intervention and for informed decision-making.
The Consulate General expressed appreciation for the IOM's support and discussed potential collaboration on projects benefiting Filipino migrants, specifically those under the Consulate’s jurisdiction. Both parties expressed their commitment to exploring joint initiatives that would benefit Filipino migrants and contribute to the overall advancement of migration governance.
Prior to this call, the Consulate’s Gender and Development (GAD) Team and Assistance to Nationals (ATN) Team composed of Vice Consul and GAD Focal Point Maika Ros B. Fontelera, GAD Assistant Helen Firme-Subido, ATN Officer Meri Jayne Cruz-Cinco, had an exploratory meeting with IOM Operations Officer, Mr. Laith Albasheer, and National Project Development and Reporting OfficerNational Project Development and Reporting Officer, Ms. Rüya Kaya on 02 June 2023.
