Consulate, Arnis Filipin Spor Kulübü Explore Promotion of PH National Sport Arnis in Istanbul

Istanbul, Türkiye – Philippine Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil received Mr. Atakan Avçi and Mr. Mustafa Bayraktan of the Arnis Filipin Spor Kulübü or Arnis Filipino Sports Club during the latter’s call on the Consulate General on 02 May 2023.

During the call, Mr. Avçi and Mr. Bayraktan introduced their organization, Arnis Filipin Spor Kulübü or Arnis Filipino Sports Club, to the Consul General and shared how they have been practicing the Philippine National Sport Arnis in Türkiye. The representatives also mentioned that their group will be conducting a two-day Arnis workshop on 16-17 May 2023 featuring Filipino Arnis Grandmaster, Mr. Virgil Cadava.

Consul General Mananquil lauded the efforts of this group composed entirely of Turkish citizens and appreciated their dedication to the Philippine Martial Art, which was also named as the country’s national sport. The Consul General also expressed optimism on future partnerships in promoting Arnis to both Filipinos and Turkish nationals in Türkiye.

Arnis Filipin Spor Kulübü or Arnis Filipino Sports Club is a Turkish-based organization composed of 50 members, established by Arnis enthusiasts and practitioners, particularly those practicing the Balintawak Arnis. They have training centers in Üsküdar and Izmir that provide avenues for members to practice basic to advanced Arnis techniques and for interested participants to learn and be exposed to the martial art.

Post’s Cultural Team composed of Vice Consul Maika Ros B. Fontelera and Cultural Officer Vanah Dominique M. De Guzman also joined the Consul General in the meeting. END
