Istanbul, 22 April 2023 – In celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul hosted for the first time an Iftar (breaking of the fast) and reception for Filipino students in Istanbul and neighboring provinces on 20 April 2023 at the Consulate premises. This is the last Iftar before the end of Ramadan.

Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil opened the short program by warmly welcoming the students and expressing her admiration for their commitment to their faith throughout Ramadan. It was followed by a presentation on Eid'l Fitr or the  “Festival of Breaking the Fast” by one of the student leaders, Mr. Rauf Basar Jainal, as well as the sharing of experiences on Eid'l Fitr and academic life in Türkiye by a number of students. The students also expressed their appreciation for the Consulate’s warm welcome and for making this gathering possible.

The event allowed the Consulate to connect with the students, introduce its personnel, and express its commitment to engaging them more and giving them assistance, whenever possible.

The Iftar reception was attended by 26 Filipino students who are in high school, college, and graduate degree programs from key universities in Istanbul and neighboring provinces such as the Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Üniversitesi, İstinye Üniversitesi, İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim Üniversitesi, İbn Haldun Üniversitesi, Kocaeli Üniversitesi, Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi, Sivas Cumhuriyet Üniversitesi, İstanbul 29 Mayıs Üniversitesi, Necmettin Erbakan Üniversitesi, Abant İzzet Baysal Üniversitesi, Samsun Üniversitesi, İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi, İstanbul Üniversitesi, Çukurova Üniversitesi, Piri Reis Üniversitesi, Tuzla Anadolu Lisesi, and İstanbul Yeni Yüzyıl Üniversitesi.
