PH Consulate General in Istanbul Assists During Layover of PH Humanitarian Contingent Team

27 February 2023 — The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, led by Consul General Shirlene C. Mananquil, assisted the 82-member Philippine Humanitarian Contingent Team as they arrived in Istanbul on 27 February 2023 after completing their search and rescue and disaster relief mission under the Afet ve Acil Durum Yönetimi Başkanlığı (AFAD) or the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Türkiye following the devastating earthquakes of February 2023.
Due to a long layover between their flights from Adana to Manila, the Philippine Consulate General coordinated and made representations with the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Airlines, and airport authorities to facilitate the check-through of the Humanitarian Team’s luggage and cargo, and ensure a comfortable stay for the contingent during their layover in Istanbul. Turkish Airlines subsequently arranged for their transportation and full board accommodation prior to their flight to Manila.
The Philippine Consulate General will continue to monitor and provide necessary assistance to the Contingent during their layover in Istanbul, and will remain on hand for their departure to Manila tomorrow, 28 February 2023. END
