İSTANBUL, 10 February 2022 – The Philippine Consulate General in İstanbul, in cooperation with the Beylikdüzü district government, inaugurated its roving photo exhibit at the Beylikdüzü Atatürk Culture and Arts Center on 9 February 2022.

 

The exhibit Gülümseyin, Philippines (translates to Smile, Philippines in English) features sixteen (16) original photographs of fifteen (15) Filipino photographers, namely: Jan Aliling, Mark Burgos, Jijo de Guzman, Paul J. Resurreccion, Gutch Gutierrez, Javi Flores, King Reyno, Kakai Arroyo, Bien S. Bautista, Ed Banaga, Annabelle Chavez, Nap Venturina, Teejay Tan, JR Velasco and Jay Jaucian.

 

Their works depict various aspects of Philippine daily life and culture, both traditional and modern. Similarities between Philippine and Turkish cultures were also highlighted in some of the photographs.

Also at the opening of the exhibit, the Philippine Consulate General in İstanbul and the Philippine Embassy in Ankara handed over several books on the Philippines to the government library situated in the same building of the photo exhibit. The books’ topics range from Philippine history to learning basic Filipino. The books would be the first materials on the Philippines which would form part of the library’s collection.

 

The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul is presently in talks with the local governments in the 11 Turkish provinces under its jurisdiction for the holding of the same photo exhibit in cultural venues within their respective cities and municipalities.

The photo exhibit, which runs from 9 to 28 February 2022, aims to elicit a stronger interest and awareness on the Philippines among the general Turkish public.
