31 July 2022- Consul Lorena Joy Banagodos, ATN Officer Meri Jayne Cinco, and Ms. Neriman Secen of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, met with representatives of the Istanbul Bar Association (IBA) composed of Atty. Aylin Moralıoğlu, Responsible Lawyer of Legal Aid Office of Istanbul Bar Association and Istanbul Bar Association Foreign Relations Coordinator Ece Basmacı Karalar in Beyoğlu, Istanbul on 26 July 2022. They were later joined by Atty. Nazan Moroğlu, LL.M., Vice-President of Istanbul Bar Association and Atty. Şükran Eroğlu, Chair of the Women’s Rights Center of Istanbul Bar Association.
The Istanbul Bar Association or Istanbul Barosu is a voluntary bar association with 29,000 members based in Istanbul, Turkiye. The Philippine Consulate General's ATN team inquired on the legal aid services provided by the bar association and was provided with an overview of their services, especially their focus on women's rights, empowerment, and addressing cases of violence against women and children, to name a few. The meeting also explored possible future information dissemination projects to update the Filipino community of relevant Turkish laws and regulations.-End
